Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for Kids

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for Kids

A good martial arts program teaches children important skills such as discipline, resilience, respect for themselves and others.

But what makes Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) different lies deeper than the principles of martial arts. BJJ is a martial art where the brain has to work just as hard as the body, it is a complex game where logical reasoning is extremely important.

At Elevation Jiu Jitsu we teach children from the age of 6 in a playful way the basics of BJJ, BJJ ensures that a child starts to think differently their body mechanics. The child will discover his/her strength, improve coordination and stability, while constantly solving complex physical puzzles.

What to expect

Human Chess

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for children requires a great mental effort. Logical reasoning is very important when learning Jiu Jitsu techniques. BJJ is often compared to chess, you often hear the term “human chess” when talking about BJJ.

I make a move and then "you" again. We continue until we have checkmate the other and he / she has nowhere to go and so has to "tap". Okay you got me, I tap and we start over again. Instead of a fight, it becomes a game.

Discipline

Martial arts have always been related to discipline and structure. While not as military as some Japanese martial arts, BJJ puts an emphasis on order. Through this “Gentle Art” children learn punctuality, responsibility, care for others and respect.
Knowing when to listen, ask questions and when to speak are skills that are super important to any growing child.

Friendship

Playing around with peers is the way to make friends. You practice the techniques in pairs, you need your "buddy" to learn the technique well, you help each other by telling each other what is going well and what could be improved.
Then you will play / spar in a controlled environment and try out the techniques. It is important that when you're stuck you tap, but even more important that if someone taps you immediately let go and see if your buddy is doing well. Then you high five and start over.

Beat the bully

The ability to defend yourself is just one of the many benefits of BJJ. Children will not only learn to stand up for themselves, they will also build the necessary confidence in themselves. They will act like a true martial artist, know how to deal with potential conflict situations without resorting to violence. Resilient and confident acting against bullies in the schoolyard.

Offline mode

No screens for a while. Today it is incredibly difficult to entertain children without screens. Something different for an hour, spending time with peers and being active at the same time.

Fitness

Getting and staying fit, it is extremely important for children to exercise. Whereas 20/30 years ago children had difficulty entering when the street lights went on, todays children having a hard time getting out of the house.
BJJ is practiced indoors, but it ensures that the children get a very intensive workout.
